Day 175: My Dad Turns 21
G-Pa Flower with Our Kids
Today my father turned the big 65 21. It is hard for me to believe; it kinda seems like he will remain in his forties forever in my mind. I mean, I know that he is growing older and all but, for some reason it is just difficult for me to wrap my mind around. Maybe it is because I really don't want to think about not having him around one day. I have learned so very much from my father.
He helped teach me how to ride my first big bike, the fine art of singing off key in the shower, how to steer a tractor, and most importantly how to get along with almost anyone. After leaving home when he completed the 8th grade, getting married 2 days before he turned 18, and surviving 6 children; he is absolutely one of the most incredible people I have ever known. He is a hard worker, incredibly smart, and totally hilarious (most of the time). I adore my father, and I have never been prouder of him then I am this year. Why? Well, maybe you can remember a few months back when I posted about how he went into the hospital. That marked the moment my father stopped smoking, after battling this deadly addiction for over 50 years. Yeah, amazing, right?
Dad, happy 65th 21st Birthday! I hope you have many, many more to come. I love you!
